Detroit, Mich. — "Know that you are capable of more than you can fathom," Whitney Griffin, president, Detroit Young Professionals said to 120 graduating high school seniors receiving $100,000 in scholarships, Monday evening.
This year’s Ford Blue Oval Scholars scolarship recipients come from 10 high schools: Central Collegiate Academy, Cody, Osborn, Southeastern and Western – all in Detroit; and Harper Woods High School, Mt. Clemens High School, Pontiac High School, River Rouge High School and Ypsilanti Community High School.
"It's our hope through our investment in the students, that they know Ford is behind them, that we believe in them and we believe in investing in them," Pamela Alexander, director of community development for Ford Motor Company Fund, told the scholars and their guests in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
This year's scholars received scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,000. Nearly $1 million in scholarships awarded to over 1,000 students since the inception of the Blue Oval Scholarship program.
